English
We are working on guided reading activities which include reading with the teacher, and then working with a group on various literacy activities including spelling activities and writing.
We are also writing and event story where students will focus in on the most interesting part of their story to slow down and expand their writing.
Math
We are working on strategies to estimate sums. For example: 389 + 468 could be estimated as about 800 by adding the hundreds (300 + 400) and then adding an additional 100. Or it could be estimated as 900 by rounding 389 to 400 and 468 to 500. Students are experimenting with different ways of looking at estimations to try and find a reasonable possibility.
We are also working on three-digit subtraction with regrouping. If you would like to work at home, you can ensure that your child is confident with basic subtraction facts to 20.
Spanish
We are continuing to work with animals in Spanish. We have been looking at animals from India and are further expanding vocabulary to describe animals and are beginning to work with some basic verb conjugations of -ar verbs. I have posted the presentation in Google classroom. It shows examples of sentences that have the conjugated -ar verbs.
Social Studies
We have been looking at the traditions and customs of the various countries and will practice reading a social studies text and creating notes of what we read in various types of organizer.
Science
We are studying animal life cycles. Most recently we have looked at the life cycle of a frog and interesting details about the various life stages of frogs.
