Welcome back!
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and restful holiday season!
The students have shared many of their wonderful experiences and adventures with the class both in English and in Spanish.
We have hit the ground running and are working on some great projects.
Spanish:
We are learning vocabulary about the house including the different rooms, and items commonly found in those rooms. We are pairing this with speaking about activities we do in the house with a focus on verbs with yo (me), and nosotros (we). Additionally, we will be working on guided reading groups in Spanish. Students will receive direct reading instruction in a small group once a week with the teacher. The other students will participate in literacy and speaking activities to bolster their language abilities.
Math:
We are reviewing various numeracy concepts from earlier in the year including expanded form, locating numbers on different number lines, and rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. We will also be reviewing the processes for three-digit addition and subtraction.
English:
We will be focusing on persuasive writing. This is starting by identifying facts from opinions. We will move into some writing to use facts to support an opinion and use persuasive language. We will also continue guided reading groups in English. Similar to Spanish, students will read in a small group with the teacher once a week to work on various reading skills.
Science:
We are completing our study of animal life cycles by creating a poster of an animal's life cycle, which will include habitat, food needs, and adaptations.
To work at home, students are encouraged to read in Spanish using Raz Kids. A good way to go about his is to select a book at an appropriate level. For grade three I recommend level C,D,E. This level does not correspond to the child's English reading ability.
