January 24

This coming Friday will be a reading party here at the school. For our class, students are invited to bring a favourite book from home. This would best be a picture book, rather than a chapter book. We will be sharing the books with each other here. Students may also bring a flashlight as we might be able to turn out the lights and create a reading mood.

In Spanish we are working on the idea of Spanish reflexive verbs. This is a difficult one for kids because it is a grammatical concept that does not exist in English. We will be working on it in a superficial way, so that the students are aware of it and are beginning to use it.

In math, we are still working on money. If you have coins and bills at home, you could support by having your child practice counting money.

In English, we are still practicing persuasive writing. This week we practiced persuading others of the best flavour of ice cream.

We are finishing up life cycles posters in science. For social studies, we had the opportunity to learn a little more about Chinese New Year as a part of Traditions and Celebrations in other countries.

Students are continuing daily literacy activities in both Spanish and English.
