I hope that everyone was able to have a nice long weekend!
We are working on a few new things in class.
Math - we are continuing to work on multiplication. We have looked at strategies to multiply with the numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 9. The goal is for students to develop a quick recall of the multiplication facts, however, this takes time. The strategies are provided so students can rely something besides counting on their fingers. We will be having a daily "quiz" on the numbers that we have practiced so far. The students will bring their quiz home and they will have indicated which questions they find difficult and would like to practice. These are not being marked by me, but rather are ongoing practice for the students.
English - we are looking at story writing. More specifically, we are looking at how to build suspense in a story by using what we are calling "the magic of three". Ask your child to explain. If you are reading together with your child, find places in the story that intentionally build suspense and discuss how the author has done it.
Kindness Month - to continue kindness month, we will be creating cards for others outside of Dalhousie School. We are narrowing down to whom we will send cards, and will be creating/delivering them soon.
