November 8

 Remembrance Day Assembly

Grade threes will be performing in the Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday. For this day, students are encouraged to wear a solid color shirt in a more muted or neutral color with no emblems, slogans or pictures. Dark solid color pants/skirts are encouraged. Please do not buy anything new for this day, use the best you have at home!

Math

We are still working at learning about polygons and their attributes. You can help at home by ensuring your child understands right angles, perpendicular lines and different types of polygons. You could find examples of these around your own home!

Spanish

We are finishing up all work for our foods unit. We will be beginning work on learning about animals.

English

We will be finishing up work on our walking stories by creating our own. We are writing a short narrative titled "The Best Part of Me". Students are choosing a body part and describing it in a descriptive and narrative manner. We are also working on daily guided reading and literacy activities. Each week, students will read with the teacher, working on specific reading strategies. They will also work in small groups to complete activities such as word sorts, vocabulary hunts, reading to others and themselves, etc.

Science

We are testing properties of minerals. Last week we tested rocks to determine their hardness on the Moh's Hardness Scale. This week we are looking at lustre.

Social Studies

Students began work on a poster to illustrate their learning about quality of life. They will compare and contrast their own quality of life with that of children in India, Peru, Ukraine, and Tunisia.

Wellness

We have begun discussing the Seven Sacred Teachings, Indigenous Ways of Knowing and learning about values. The first that we will study is Love. Love for ourselves and for others in a variety of different ways.
